Richard (Dick) Van Arsdale is one half of the dynamic duo who led Manual to basketball prominence in the 1960s. He shared the coveted Mr. Basketball and Trester Award with his brother, Tom. Van Arsdale continued his prowess at Indiana University, and was a second round 1965 NBA draft pick by the New York Knicks. In 1968, Van Arsdale was the first player selected in the expansion draft for the Phoenix Suns. He played in three All-Star Games, and helped guide the team to its first-ever NBA Finals appearance in 1976 against the Boston Celtics. In 1988, he was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Following his pro career, Van Arsdale served as a TV commentator, interim head coach and senior vice president of player personnel.
