Dr. Stanley Warren, a former Crispus Attucks High School teacher, is a consultant on African American higher education issues and also an esteemed historian, researcher and writer. For 21 years, he taught education and history at DePauw University in Greencastle, starting in 1969.
A graduate of Indiana Central College and Indiana University, Dr. Warren retired from DePauw University as Professor of Education and Dean of Academic Affairs in 1993.
From 1989 to 1992 he served as Associate Dean and Dean of Academic Affairs. From 1973 to 1979, he was the Director of Black Studies and from 1979 to 1989, a faculty member in the Department of Education.
He is the former Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Historical Society and Chair of the Finance Committee. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana and Chair of its African American Landmarks Committee.
He has served as Vice Chair of the State Student Assistance Commission, been a member of the State Marker Committee of the Indiana State Historical Bureau, the University of Indianapolis Alumni Board, the Editorial Board of the Indiana Magazine of History, and the First Tee Program of Indianapolis.
Dr. Warren is a member of the African American Landmarks Committee and the Crispus Attucks Museum Board of Directors. In 1993, Dr. Warren was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Indiana Central College, now the University of Indianapolis, and Honorary Trustee of the Indiana historical Society in 1996.
A member of 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, Dr. Warren is the author of three books: “Crispus Attucks High School: Hail to the Green, Hail to the Gold,” “The Senate Avenue YMCA for African American Men and Boys: 1913 to 1959” and “Monograph: Black Americans Represented on United States Postage Stamps.”
He is also the author of more than 100 journal, magazine, and newspaper articles.
