Hallie Bryant is a basketball icon who helped lay the foundation of greatness at Crispus Attucks High School. He is an outstanding Hoosier role model for success.

In 1951, Bryant led Attucks to its first Final Four high school tournament and two years later was named Indiana’s “Mr. Basketball.” As team co-captain, he helped lead the Indiana University Hoosiers to the Big Ten Championship in 1957.

Following a two-year stretch as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Army, Bryant joined the Harlem Globetrotters, where he spent the next 27 years making fans laugh.
With the Globetrotters, Bryant visited more than 87 countries in 13 years as a player, and then continued his relationship with the organization as an official spokesperson and director of team personnel.

Even after retiring from the Globetrotters, Bryant continues to spread his gospel of sportsmanship and academic excellence by putting on one-man basketball shows for youth groups.

In 2002, Bryant published his first book, “Hallie's Comet: Breaking the CODE,” a self-help book to help readers develop self-mastery of harmony based on his experiences as an international basketball diplomat, speaker, and seminar facilitator.  

In recent years, Bryant has embarked on a new career as a motivational speaker and has addressed groups such as General Motors, General Electric, Special Olympics, Inc. and Eli Lilly & Co.

On Jan.19, 2009, Bryant was honored by the Globetrotters with the team's “Legends” award during a halftime presentation at a Globetrotters game at Conseco Fieldhouse. Bryant is just the 28th person in the Globetrotters' storied 83-year history to receive the distinction. Indiana lawmakers recognized this accomplishment with a resolution in March 2009.

Bryant was offered the “Legends’ honor in 1998, but he selflessly asked that it instead be bestowed upon his Globetrotter teammate and childhood friend, Willie Gardner, who was suffering from diabetes at the time. Gardner, who played three seasons with the Globetrotters and had signed a contract with the New York Knicks before a heart condition forced him to retire, died in 2000.

Bryant has gone through life with a resolve and determination to learn and make the best of every situation. He has persevered both on and off the court. His life experiences inspire individuals of all ages through what he calls “edutaining.”
